Toronto, la ciudad más grande de Canadá, aunque no su capital, con más de 2.5 millones de personas, es el centro financiero del país. Su área metropolitana dobla la población. Es una ciudad con un marcado Downtown, donde se elevan grande rascacielos y la famosa Torre CN de 553 metros de altura junto al estadio el Rogers Centre. El resto de la ciudad, se extiende ampliamente alrededor.

El transporte público está operado por la TTC, que dispone de líneas de autobús, tranvía y metro. Según las estadísticas, es el tercero más transitado de América del Norte, precedido por Nueva York y Méjico DF.

La compañía dispone de más de 1700 autobuses, 240 tranvías y 700 trenes de metro que operan las 139 líneas de autobús, 11 de tranvía y 4 de metro. A finales de 2009, el 40% de la flota de autobuses estará provista de vehículos híbridos. En 2010, todos los autobuses dispondrán de portabicicletas (para dos unidades) en la parte delantera, como lleva el 32C de la foto.

Como curiosidad, la propia TTC, en su web, indica que la línea de autobús más utilizada es la 29 a Dufferin con 43,600 usuarios en un día laboral. Así mismo, la línea de tranvía 504 por la calle King transporta 56,700 usuarios también en día laboral.

El 32 son realmente 5 líneas, que discurren por el mismo corredor. El 32 (Eglinton West) conecta la estación del metro de Eglinton con la zona de Eglinton Avenue West and Renforth Drive y el Airport Corporate Centre en la vecina ciudad de Mississauga, en una línea claramente este-oeste. La web de la TTC dispone de una página por línea, con información de interés, en este caso, de la 32.

As any typical city in the North of the American Continent, it has a downtown, where you can see the highest skyscrapers (also the famous landmark Tower CN with 553 metres high next to the Rogers Centre). The rest of the city expands widely around it.

Public Transport is operated by TTC, offering a wide selection of buses, trams (streetcars) and underground. According the statistics, the system is the third most used system within North America, preceded by New York and Mexico City.

The company has more than 1700 buses, 240 trams and 700 underground trains that operate the 139 bus routes, 11 streetcar lines and 4 metro services. By end of 2009, 40% of the fleet will be hybrid vehicles, with a clear bet to save the environment. By 2010, all vehicles will have a bike rack (for two bicycles) at the front, as the picture of the 32C clearly shows.

Out of curiosity, TTC's website shows that the most commonly used service is bus route 29 to Dufferin with around 43,600 passengers per day and streetcar line 504 King, carrying 56,700 users on a workday.
The 32 service is actually 5 routes along the same corridor. The 32 Eglinton West bus route operates between Eglinton Station on the Yonge-University-Spadina Subway, the area of Eglinton Avenue West and Renforth Drive, and the Airport Corporate Centre in the City of Mississauga, generally in an east-west direction. EL 32 DE COVENTRY / COVENTRY'S 32

La ciudad inglesa de Coventry, con sus poco más de 300.000 habitantes está en el ranking como la 9 ciudad de Inglaterra. Siempre a la sombra de la cercana Birmingham, Coventry ha sabido resurgir de sus episodios negros de la historia: Los bombardeos de los Nazis, que la dejaron desolada.

Actualmente, Coventry ofrece al visitante las ruinas de su antigua catedral. Pero no solo eso. También dispone de la mayor colección de vehículos ingleses, dentro del museo del automóvil, al cual se puede acceder de forma gratuita. Ahí, también se pueden ver algunos autobuses antiguos.

El 32, lo opera Travel Coventry, una subsidiaria de National Express con varios autobuses de dos pisos. Comienza en Tanyard Farm / Tile Hill North dirigiéndose al centro de Coventry (estación de autobuses) y Potters Green / Bell Green, pasando por Hearsall Common y Walsgrave Road. También existe un 32A (los domingos principalmente y tardes) y un 32C que hacen pequeñas modificaciones a la ruta. La frecuencia para el 32 es de 15 a 20 minutos. Las otras dos líneas, no disponen de un horario regular.

Travel Coventry ha funcionado bajo varios nombres desde la privatización. Primero fue West Midlands Travel Ltd. En 1995 la compañía National Express Group se hizo con el control. En septiembre 1996 se renombra Travel West Midlands. En 2002 the empieza a operar bajo el nombre de Travel Coventry. Actualmente, dispone de 170 vehículos que dan servicio a 90 líneas.

The English city of Coventry, with just over 300.000 inhabitants, is considered to be the 9th biggest city in England. Always behind the shadow of nearby Birmingham, Coventry has managed to get over the black episodes in history: the bombing by the Nazis, that left it flattened.


Nowadays, Coventry offers the visitors the ruins of its former Cathedral. But not only that. It also has a free entry Transport Museum, where you will find the largest collection of British made cars. Also, some old buses.


The 32 is operated by Travel Coventry, a subsidiary of National Express, with several double deckers. From Tanyard Farm / Tile Hill North it heads to Coventry City Centre (bus station) finishing at Potters Green / Bell Green, calling at Hearsall Common and Walsgrave Road. There is also a 32A (evening and Sunday services mainly) and a 32C that run along a slightly modified route. Frequencies are good: between 15 and 20 minutes. The other two lines don't have an established timetable, as they run off peak, evening or Sundays.

Travel Coventry has operated under different names since deregulation. First, it was West Midlands Travel Ltd. In 1995 National Express Group bought it and took control of it. In september 1996, it is renamed Travel West Midlands. In 2002 it becomes Travel Coventry. Nowadays, it has around 170 vehicles operating 90 routes.

EN DUBAI, UN 32C / IN DUBAI, A 32C

Dubai, por algunos llamada la ciudad de las mil maravillas, dispone de una red de autobuses que se extienden a lo largo y ancho del emirato. Gestionado por el ente Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), dispone de alrededor de 76 rutas (71 diurnas 5 nocturnas). Hasta 2008, el sistema era algo deficiente, pero una fuerte inversión ha hecho desaparecer viejas "tartanas" para dejar paso a modernos autobuses. Incluso las marquesinas se han cambiado para ofrecer un sitio con aire acondicionado durante la espera del autobús. Para mí, la primera ciudad donde las veo.

En el caso del 32C, desgraciadamente, tengo que decir que no cuenta con los autobuses más modernos de la flota. La línea tiene una buena frecuencia, 20 minutos y conecta la estación de Al Qusais con la de Al Satwa, en la zona del World Trade Centre, pasando por el Aeropuerto. Curiosamente, circula por un vial que existe por debajo de las pistas de aterrizaje/despegue del aeropuerto. Supongo que con la introducción del metro elevado (estructura elevada en la foto siguiente), (teóricamente el 09.09.2009, aunque mucho me temo que será más adelante, pues las obras van muy retrasadas) quizás su recorrido se quede mermado o modificado.


Dubai, known by some as the city of Thousand Wonders, has a bus network that covers all areas of the emirate. It is managed by the governmental body Roads and Transport Authority (RTA). It has 76 routes (71 day services and 5 night services). Until 2008, the system was a bit deficient, but a huge investment has made the old buses to allow modern ones to take care of the service. Even the bus shelters have been changed, offering air conditioned while you wait for your bus inside. It's the first city where I have seen them.

Bus route 32C, unfortunately, is not one of the lines with modern buses. They are rather old. However a good 20 minute frequency compensates. It connects Al Qusais Bus Station with Al Satwa Bus Station, near teh World Trade Centre, serving the Airport. Curiously, it runs along the road that crosses under the Airport runway. I have the impression that once the overground rail (see the bridge structure in the above pricture) opens (scheduled theoretically for 09.09.2009, although I very much doubt it, as works are rather behind) it may have its route curtailed or modified.
